Aubrey - The Basics (2 yrs, 10 months)

It's been awhile since I've posted an update about the basics of where Aubrey is, so here's what she's doing at 2 years, 10 months old:

Food: Eats EVERYTHING.  Especially loves fish, broccoli, and berries.  Her favorite drink is lemonade, lemonade, lemonade!  For snacks she likes gummies, kid cliff bars, and orange bunnies (the organic version of goldfish).  I try to have her eat organic as much as possible, especially with meats and fruits and veggies!

Speech: Her vocabulary is very advanced.  She talks like a miniature adult which is mostly cute but sometimes disturbing.  She uses complete sentences and is very into providing reasons for why she is doing whatever she is doing (especially when it is something she shouldn't be doing!)  She gets frustrated when adults speak baby talk to her.

Play: She's very into playing dress-up and using make-up.  She loves to "write" letters and mail them, especially to her great grandma.  She enjoys drawing but likes painting more, and she loves to do any kind of craft.  She plays with her dolls - mainly Megan and Doc McStuffins.  She also likes to play doctor and play with her princesses.

Activities: She was in gymnastics for a few months but became bored with the activities, so while she is on the wait list for the 3 year old class we are taking a break.  She will start dance in November and I'm thinking she'll love it.  She has been in soccer for almost a year but we thought we'd take a break this session and try lil' sluggers.  She seems to like it okay but I think soccer is where her heart lies, so we will sign-up for it again next session.  I think she likes soccer better because there is more running.

School: Aubrey started early preschool this fall at Primrose of Eldorado.  She goes all day on Tuesdays and Thursdays and she LOVES it.  Her teacher's names are Ms. Vera and Ms. Lebron.  She likes Ms. Vera because she has puppies and "beautiful long black hair."  Her best friends are Chloe, Chloe, and Deacon.  She always remembers to point out that there are two Chloes.  Ms. Vera says Aubrey is the class mother.  Evidently Chloe #1 is very shy and Aubrey encourages her to attend class activities and helps guide her along.  We have been so happy at Primrose.  Everyone is very friendly and they have a great program for the kids.  They also have a lot of fun activities like the Fall Festival, a cultural parade, etc. I think Aubrey's favorite was the day the McKinney fireman came for a visit in the firetruck.

Sleep Schedule: On weekdays Aubrey is in bed by 8 and wakes-up around 6:15.  On the weekends she usually sleeps until 7 (if we're lucky!)  She takes a 2 - 2 1/2 hour nap but sometimes less on school days.  She is sleeping in her big girl bed in her room but if she wakes up in the middle of the night she usually winds up in her toddler bed at the foot of our bed.

Chores: She picks up poo in Bitsy's backyard, she waters the plants, helps to sweep the kitchen floors, puts her clothes in the dirty clothes hamper, puts her shoes and toys away.

Potty Training: We had been casually working on going potty over the summer, but to be honest, we weren't trying too hard.  After Aubrey's third day of school her teacher pulled me aside and said "she's potty trained.  She needs to start wearing panties."  I was like, ummm okay!  I kind of didn't believe it but she was correct!  I guess seeing the other kids at school use the potty motivated her.  She still wears a diaper at night but its usually dry when she wakes up.  Her favorite panties are princess panties, of course!

Favorite TV Shows: We don't watch a lot of tv but when we do Aubrey likes Doc McStuffins, Caillou, and Daniel Tiger Neighborhood.  I love Daniel Tiger Neighborhood because it always teaches a good lesson.

Baby #2

Yep, we're pregnant with baby #2!  We found out we were pregnant at the end of July and recently announced it to friends and family.  It's funny how different it is the second time around - life is so busy I sometimes forget I am pregnant, whereas before it was all I could think about.  Aubrey knows but I don't think she has processed what it means.  I think it'll be different when I start to show more.  She says she wants a baby sister but I think she'll be happy either way.  We find out the sex of the baby on November 5 - not much longer!  We are excited to see what we'll be having.  We are at sixteen weeks and so far it has been a pretty easy pregnancy.  I haven't been sick at all but a lot of foods don't sit very well.  I've had to be careful about what and how much I eat because food can make me feel so gross.  I've been pretty tired but I'm not sure if its because of the pregnancy or because I have a very energetic toddler!

September 2012

September was pretty un-eventful, except for a weekend trip to Beavers Bend, Oklahoma.  We rented a cabin which Aubrey called the “Adventure House” and spent the entire weekend hiking and checking out the area.  It was before the leaves turned but it was still beautiful.  The lake was very clear and Aubrey and Justin spent quite awhile throwing rocks in the water.  We saw a bunch of deer and even saw a turtle crossing the road.  We roasted marshmallows and collected a ton of rocks.  Aubrey and Justin found a stick bug and spent the entire weekend chasing momma with it.  Momma was not thrilled!  We decided we would definitely go back but maybe next time when the weather is a little cooler!

August 2012

Aubrey’s first trip to the beach!
At the beginning of August we took a long weekend and went to Galveston.  This was Aubrey’s first trip to the beach and she absolutely loved it.  We spent pretty much the whole weekend on the beach playing in the sand and water and picking up seashells.  We ate at Gaido’s and Willie G’s and went shopping on the strand.  We went to Galveston every summer when I was growing up and I have great memories of the island.  I can’t wait to make this a tradition for Aubrey!
